Training
Training should always be fun for both dog and owner. The key is to integrate training into you and your
dog’s daily routine using the rewards that are most important to the dog. This hopefully will make for a
happy, controlled dog both in and outside the home.
Living with and training dogs in a city can be very different to living in the country. Different sets of
rules are required as safety is paramount. Good Manners should consist of walking relaxed on a lead,
not jumping up at people, leaving rubbish alone, learning to return on command and stay.
According to the Dog Hollow Guide for Good Manners, there are 5 basic commands for the dog to follow:
- Walk to heel
- Sit and wait
- Down and stay
- Leave objects alone when asked
- Come when called
Dog Hollow offers three obedience classes
- Puppy training and socialisation. (See puppy page)
- Intermediate Obedience. (See adult page)
- Advanced Obedience. (See adult page)
Dog Hollow also runs a Sports and Social Club every week for those that just want to have fun and meet up with
friends!
1-2-1 training consultations:
Initial consultation is usually 1 hour and subsequent sessions are then tailored to the needs of
dog and owner.
Behaviour consultations:
(1 hour consultation and follow ups if needed).
If your dog has a problembehaviour which is not mentioned above such as separation problems, agression
towards people or other dogs, or going to the toilet in the house, a behaviour consultation may be
needed.
